Along with the program-specific requirements listed below, please read the General Information section of this catalog for Graduate School requirements that apply to all major fields. Curriculum—The master of science in software engineering (M.S.S.E.) program provides a thorough understanding of the fundamental issues related to software development and the software development process. It fosters an awareness of the problems and opportunities associated with software-intensive systems and explains the methods for quickly evaluating, adopting, and taking advantage of emerging technologies. This program introduces emerging technologies and their applications and lays the foundation for lifelong learning and professional development in a rapidly changing field. The M.S.S.E. program is an interdisciplinary program administered by the Institute of Technology’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
The program is offered in a format designed for full-time working professionals. Students take courses one day per week (alternating Fridays and Saturdays) and move through the curriculum as a cohort, taking all classes together for the first three semesters.
Prerequisites for Admission—Prospective students should have an undergraduate degree in computer science or a closely related field and a minimum of one year of professional experience working in the software industry. Students with degrees in other fields may be considered for admission based on extensive industrial experience.

M.S.S.E. Degree Requirements | | The M.S.S.E. requires 30 credits. Students take eight core courses, two industrial seminar courses and two elective courses. The project requirement can be met by a combination of class projects, or by an independent project elective.
